God is doing wondrous things among us!

God is doing wondrous things among us!

It would be easy to read that statement and think of it as just another way pastors speak. We always bring God into everything. However, I want you to pause for a moment and reflect on what has been happening at Hillspring over the past several months.

Last year at this time I was looking for a job as a CEO with nonprofits in Portland. I had no interest or imagination for working with a church. Hillspring had been struggling with some basic needs to upgrade bathrooms and the campus to meet ADA standards and truly be a welcoming congregation. In addition, a lot of conversations and energy had gone into responding to God’s call to reach beyond the church and into the community in deeper ways.

Many pieces have come together to create a perfect moment. It is a God thing! I am on staff at Hillspring and not a CEO in Portland. My primary focus is developing relationships, strategies, and plans for new levels of community engagement. Hillspring is in a $1.5 million capital campaign to improve the campus and support greater  community engagement. This includes $300,000 going directly to support expanded community ministries. God is Doing Wonderous Things Among Us! No one could have predicted all the elements coming together to create such a time as this.

The next step in this process is to bring our gifts to the table and support the wonderful things God is doing. May 5th is Commitment Sunday when we will have an opportunity to pledge our assistance to the campaign.  There are three specific areas where you can be supportive. We need financial support, prayer support and a growing number of volunteers to enable expanding ministries.

This is the right moment to move forward and step into a vision that will guide Hillspring for the next decades of ministry. What we do now will shape the church, community, and lives for tomorrow.

We have over $1.2 million dollars in pledges at this point. We are close to the finish line. This campaign is focused on essentials, not extravagant requests. In addition to the campus upgrades, 20% of the campaign goes to empower new initiatives into needy areas of the Tri-Cities. With campaign funding, we will create new ministries that will allow us to live the gospel as a 21st century church. This is a major step of faith, which reflects a confidence that God is doing wonderous things among us.

Check out our web page for more details and join us on the journey. Pledge Cards will be available on Sunday morning.
